This edition of the Alliance for Regional Transportation Educational Series featured keynote speaker Robert Puentes, president and CEO of the Eno Center for Transportation, with opening remarks from City of Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer.

The March program in the Alliance for Regional Transportation’s Educational Series focused on Empowering a Regional Transportation Authority, featuring keynote speaker Robert Puentes, president and CEO of the Eno Center for Transportation, and opening remarks from City of Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer.

Puentes, a national expert on transportation policy and leadership, shared his expert insight on why transit governance and regional transportation institutions are essential to ensuring regional connectivity and access. Mayor Dyer shared how this recommendation can be accomplished and discussed the historical and current governance structures of Lynx and SunRail. Puentes discussed successful transit governance structures and regional transportation institution models on a national level.

Empowering a Regional Transportation Authority has the potential to streamline the region’s various transportation networks into a single entity responsible for public transportation systems in Orange, Osceola and Seminole Counties. The timeliness of this discussion is more important than ever as the Orlando region’s local transit systems overcome challenges stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic and evaluate how to create stability for future operations. This recommendation, one of the Partnership’s seven priorities originally approved one year ago by our board of directors as part of the Orlando Transportation 2030 Report, will take strategy, collaboration and dedication on behalf of the region’s governing agencies to accomplish.

Thank you to the elected leaders, transportation agency leaders, and ART Executive Committee members for attending.
